Please follow the following planting instructions, and we can let you have large daffodils in full bloom in spring.

1. Choose the Right Location and Prepare the Soil

Select a well-drained site with full to partial sunlight for planting daffodil bulbs. Daffodils thrive in locations receiving at least 6 hours of sunlight daily. Avoid waterlogged areas to prevent bulb rot. Loosen the soil to a depth of 12 inches and amend it with compost or well-rotted manure to improve fertility and drainage.

2. Plant Bulbs at the Correct Depth and Spacing

Plant daffodil bulbs in the fall, about 2 to 4 weeks before the first hard frost. Dig holes 6 inches deep for standard-sized bulbs and 3 inches deep for miniature varieties. Place the bulbs pointed side up, spacing them 3 to 6 inches apart. Cover with soil and lightly tamp down to eliminate air pockets, ensuring the bulbs are securely planted.

3. Water Thoroughly After Planting

After planting, water the daffodil bulbs deeply to help settle the soil and promote root development. Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged during the establishment phase. Water consistently until the ground freezes. Reduce watering during dormancy in winter to prevent rot, and resume regular watering in the spring as growth begins.

4. Apply Mulch for Winter Protection

Once the ground has frozen, apply a 2 to 3-inch layer of mulch, such as straw or shredded leaves, over the planting area. This insulation helps protect daffodil bulbs from severe winter temperatures. In the spring, gradually remove the mulch as temperatures rise and new growth emerges, ensuring bulbs have adequate protection during the transition.

5. Protect Surrounding Tulip Bulbs

To safeguard tulip bulbs planted nearby, consider covering the entire planting area with wire mesh or chicken wire to deter pests such as squirrels and voles. Secure the edges to prevent burrowing. Alternatively, plant daffodils and tulips together, as daffodil bulbs are less appealing to pests and can act as a natural deterrent, offering added protection to tulip bulbs.
